Women love to be wined and dined. In fact, food, romance and even lust have been linked together for centuries. Did you know that cooking, eating and making love use all five basic senses – sight, touch, hearing, taste and smell? What goes on in the kitchen, if done right, can ultimately extend to the bedroom.
So rather than spend a fortune at a swanky restaurant, why not plan a table for two at home? Surely there is nothing more romantic than preparing a lavish spread for your other half! In fact, this meal story was done as a prelude to my eighth wedding anniversary (which fell on the September 26th) and my lovely wife gamely agreed to ‘share the romance’ with The Weekend Chef crew.

Ingredients
Dark Chocolate Truffles
- 250g good quality dark chocolate
- 100 ml cream
Praline Truffles
- 250g good quality dark chocolate
- 100 ml cream
- 100 g almonds
- 1 cup sugar
- 6 tbsp water
Method
Dark Chocolate Truffles
- Heat the cream until almost boiling.
- Pour it over 125g of chocolate and mix well.
- Beat the mixture with an electric mixer on high until it becomes fluffy.
- Melt the remaining chocolate in a double boiler and brush moulds or tin foil cups with the melted chocolate. Leave to set.

Ingredients
Caramelised Pears
- 6 fresh pears, halved
- 300 ml cream
- 1 cup sugar
- ½ cup water
- 2 tsp rum (optional)
Chantilly Cream
- 300 ml whipping cream
- 3 tbsp icing sugar
- 2 tsp vanilla
Method
Caramelised Pears
- Preheat the oven to 200°C.
- Make the caramel by melting sugar with water in a heavy saucepan.
- Bring to the boil without stirring and continue boiling till sides of syrup start to turn golden.
- Allow the caramel to cool slightly and then add in the cream. Be careful as the mixture will splutter. Continue to boil until it becomes thick.

Serves: 6
Ingredients
- 600 g beef round eye or loin
- 2 medium carrots, sliced in circles
- 200 g button mushrooms, sliced
- 1 leek, thinly sliced
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 gloves garlic, chopped
- 1 stalk celery, diced
- 1 tsp oregano
- 1 tsp basil
- 3 tomatoes, chopped
- 1 tablespoons tomato paste
- 2 tsp chicken stock granules
- 1 tbsp brandy
- Salt
- Black pepper
- Olive oil
Method
- Season the beef with salt and pepper.
- Lightly brown the beef on both sides. Remove from pan and set aside.
