- 1 piece tofu
- 100g minced meat (pork or chicken)
- 100g medium prawns, diced
- ½ tsp chili paste
- ½ tsp bean paste
- 1 tsp chopped garlic
- ½ tsp sugar
- 2 tbsp cooking oil
- ½ tsp light soya sauce
- ½ cup water
- Cornflour mixed with water
- Salt
Marinade
- One pinch salt, pepper and cornflour
- 2-3 drops sesame oil
Garnishing
- 3-4 whole shallots, thinly sliced and deep-fried until golden brown
- 1 stalk spring onion, finely chopped
Method
- Marinate the meat and set aside for ½ hour.
- In a pot/wok/steamer, steam the tofu for about 5 minutes. Remove the excess water and set aside.
- Heat up the oil in a pan. Add the garlic, bean paste and chili. Stir briefly until the garlic is lightly browned.
- Add the meat and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes. Add the water, soya sauce and sugar.
- After 2-3 minutes, add the diced prawns. Stir briefly until the prawns are cooked. Add salt and immediately stir in the cornflour paste to lightly thicken the sauce.
- Pour the sauce over the tofu and garnish with the fried shallots and spring onions.
Food Notes
- The sauce can be prepared beforehand, heated up and poured over the tofu prior to serving.
- Add a little of water if you are reheating to ensure that the sauce has the right consistency.
